Next Generation Leaders
Heather Carpenter has served as a Nonprofit Manager, Consultant, Speaker and Trainer to nonprofit organizations in California and Illinois for over 7 years. She earned her Masters of Management in Nonprofit Administration from North Park University in Chicago, Illinois. Heather is currently pursuing her PhD in Leadership at the University of San Diego and serves as a Research Assistant in the Caster Family Center for Nonprofit Research. Heather also serves on the Board of Directors of YNPN San Diego and as Faculty at John F. Kennedy University in the Bay Area. Heather has authored several practical Nonprofit Management Toolkits and blogs about Nonprofit Leadership.

Emily Davis began her career working in the field of ending violence against women more than 10 years ago as a community activist, victim advocate, and trainer. After focusing on women’s health and sexual assault, she became involved in environmental issues, international human rights, and philanthropy. Emily has been serving as a nonprofit consultant and philanthropic advisor to various individuals and organizations through her company, Emily Davis and Associates (EDA) Consulting. Emily has served on numerous nonprofit committees and boards nationally and in Colorado where she recently completed her Masters of Nonprofit Management with honors from Regis University. She now lives in San Diego, CA where she continues her consulting work; founded and serves as board chair for YNPN San Diego; and focuses on issues related to emerging leaders with nationally renowned organizations.

Derwin Dubose is a fundraising professional in North Carolina. He currently works for the Ronald McDonald House and Family Room of Durham. As the organization’s Annual Fund Director, he launched and now manages the organization’s major gifts and direct marketing programs. Derwin came to his current job after eight years of fundraising experience with universities, K-12 agencies, non-profits, and political committees. Derwin graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a history degree. He is completing coursework from Duke University’s non-profit management program and has graduated from Wellstone Action’s political management program.

Trista Harris is a very passionate advocate for young people in philanthropy and writes about generational change in the social sector at www.newvoicesofphilanthropy.org. During the day she is a program officer at a community foundation in Minnesota (working on strategic planning, evaluation, civic engagement, and multi-service agencies), at night she works on avenues for getting more professional development opportunities for young people already employed in the sector and figuring out how to get more young people and people of color in the field. Patrick Sallee has been with Big Brothers Big Sisters since November of 2007. As the Development Director, Patrick manages fundraising efforts that include grant writing, individual gifts, corporate sponsorships and the Friendship Foundation Breakfast. Patrick received his Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Oklahoma Baptist University and his Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Patrick also sits on the boards of the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network of Kansas City and the Council on Philanthropy.
